Rose's On The Shore

A few weeks ago I went over to the west side of the state to visit my sister!  We ate at Rose's in East Grand Rapids, which sits right on the water of Reeds Lake.  It was such a beautiful day (and very very windy!) and we got to sit out by the water.  So beautiful.  And very convenient that the restaurant was also located next to John A Collins Park...a great place for pictures!

Tomorrow I'm heading back over to Grand Rapids to have another sister weekend.  We're meeting up with my cousins for dinner/drinks, so it should be a grand old time!

Oh, and I'm updating this while I wait for the baseball game to come back from rain delay... GO TIGERS!!  Yeah Detroit! :D

Until next time!

Bring it on, autumn!

Yesterday as I was driving to work in the morning, I realized that some of the trees I pass daily are turning yellow.  Yes!  It's starting!  Bring on the red, the orange, the yellow!

Where was I going in this outfit?  To get happy hour drinks with one of my old high school friends Clarissa.  I love catching up with friends!

This was also the first time wearing my new boots this fall!

Freeze Frame!

It's officially autumn!  So that means I better hurry up and post all my outfits that involve some sort of summer-wear.  That means flip flops!

Another me-being-me picture ^ above.  :D

This weekend has been a fall-filled one.  Yesterday I drove down to Toledo, OH to visit my friend and we went to an all-in-one Cider Mill/Pumpkin Patch/Corn Maze!  I left there will a stomach full of cider and doughnuts (and muddy shoes from the corn maze, but it was worth it!)

In other news, Cup of Tea is now officially at 30 Google Friend Connect followers!  Yay!  Thanks to everyone who read and comment on the blog, it means so much!  And thanks to all of the non-Google Friend Connect followers out there too! :)

And since I'm a fan of finding new ways to combine clothing pieces:

This jean jacket originally appeared in a post from July and the peach pants originally appeared a couple weeks ago in my last first day of school post.  I encourage all to continually find new ways to make outfits.  Not only do you end up with a fabulous new outfit and save money, it's also a fun challenge and good way to get your brain working.  Sounds silly but I often fall asleep thinking of new outfits in my head.

How have you remixed an outfit?

Happy Sunday!
P.S.
Completely random, but as I was flipping through the pictures for this post, the action shot used in the "I've Seen That Before!" collage made me think of the opening song to The Mary Tyler Moore Show... freeze frame!  Haha, I'm so nerdy.

My very own black floppy hat!

Look at that!  Two posts within one weeks time!  How incredible.  I've had my nose in Jane Eyre for the past two weeks and I've finally finished it a few hours ahead of schedule!  Go me!  So with a few unexpected hours to spare before heading off to bed I'm taking this opportunity to share with you an outfit:

shirt: Forever21
skirt: LC Lauren Conrad
hat: American Eagle
shoes: Delia's
bracelets: gifts
ring: H&M
necklace: Target

I must admit that I didn't actually wear this outfit anywhere.  It was more like a playing dress-up session.  [Side story: speaking of playing dress-up, a few weeks ago I decided to rummage around in my own "dress-up clothes" from when I was little and discovered that the dresses I used to play in actually fit me now!  They're all 80's prom type dresses, but they fit me perfectly.  Might just have to do a silly, 80's prom dress, retro post soon...]

So, back to this outfit, I'm super excited about this hat.  I did a post back in August about the desire for a black floppy hat (as seen here) and was really surprised to walk into American Eagle one day with a friend and see it on the mannequin right before my eyes.  Plus, the AE version looked exactly like I was picturing my desired hat to look, even more than the two I posted in August.  Happy me!  The only problem is I haven't quite figured out how and where to wear it.  I have floppy sun hats, and usually wear them to the beach or when I know I'll be out in the sun all day.  Fall hats are new to me.  How and when do you wear them?  Any ideas?

Looking for hat solutions...

Quirks In Cowboy Boots

Well it appears that I am very behind in outfit posts!  I've been accumulating photos and haven't had any time to post them!  So the weather is now changing, and I still have some outfits to post that were taken during warmer weather:

Finally, a post that proves I've been wearing my cowboy boots!

And also a post that somewhat reveals another side of myself: silly and quirky ^ I let that side out to people slowly, after they know that I can be completely normal too. :D

dress: Forever21
boots: Alloy
belt: Gap
bracelets: gifts
necklace: Heritage 1981
stick: my backyard

I've been having fun experimenting with a few Photoshop actions saved on my computer.  I love the effects they make, but I also love the bright and "normal" colors too.  So I included both in this post.

Tomorrow I'm heading out to the other side of the state to visit my sister in Grand Rapids.  I'm looking forward to it!  Too bad I'll also have to be stressing out about getting school work done at the same time.  I'm reading Jane Eyre in my Women In Literature class, and it's soooo good.  Only problem is that I have to read it really fast.  I wouldn't have a problem with reading all day if I didn't also have a million other things to do too.  Anyone else read Jane Eyre or seen the movie?  I'm loving it so far, so don't spoil anything for me.  I plan on watching one of the movies after since I haven't seen any of those yet either.

I'm off to go continue reading!
P.S. I finally saw 500 Days of Summer last night, and let me tell you, I LOVE those outfits!  I got super inspired.  Almost enough to consider bringing back my 60s-inspired bangs that I had a few years ago.  After sleeping on it though, I decided against it... but I love every look Zooey Deschanel wore.  They were sooo cute.

New Specs

Even though I've had them for a week or so (and they showed up in my previous post), today I am sharing my new specs!  I haven't had new frames since 2007, so I was finally ready for a slight update.  They're still plastic, they still have the butterfly shape (which, in my opinion, is the only shape that fits my face well), but they're new, they have some "gems" in them, and overall I'm happy.

frames: Nine West

At first I wasn't sure if I'd made the right choice about these frames.... it took me forever to choose them.  There I sat at the glasses counter at my eye doctor's office with a pile of frames.  I probably sorted through at least 20 pairs before deciding on these.  It took forever.  The woman helping me deserves some kind of award for sitting with me so long and being patient while I continued to switch back and forth between a bunch of frames and then proceed to pick over minute details that probably I only notice.

Then, after waiting a few weeks for them to come in (of course the ones I finally chose were on back-order), I finally picked them up and felt weird about them.  I was all of a sudden thinking, what did I do?!?  I probably sneaked peeks at myself in the mirror 100 times that day trying to get used to them.  They probably don't look much different to the average eye, but I notice the small things and it takes a bit of getting used to.

So after all that (who would have thought they could spark so much entry space in this blog), I think I'm finally used to them.  My heart doesn't sink when I see them in the mirror anymore, which means they are finally becoming a part of me like my previous ones were.  Since I wear glasses everyday (contacts are so annoying!) they really are a part of my face.  And I love them.

And there's a happy me above ^ sporting the fabulous new specs.  (And by the way, that's a sneak peak into an upcoming outfit post soon as well!)

I would like to mention that when I was a junior in high school, I won the award of "Sexy Specs" for the whole school.... this wasn't just a senior awards type thing...  it meant that I had the best glasses in the whole school, or so thought the people that voted for me.  I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but I gotta say, I love being glasses girl.

Any other glasses-wearing, glasses-loving people out there?

Until next time!

My Last First Day Of School

As the title above says, today was my last First Day of School.  I definitely have mixed feelings about this.  As much as I'm ready to be done and move forward with my life, I will miss going to school.  I've always loved school.  I love buying school supplies every September.  Notebooks: check, Pencils: check, Pens: check, Folders: check.  I'm always eager to learn as much as I can.  I just want to know everything there is to know about art and design (more specifically graphic design)!

I actually had this outfit photographed over the weekend.  And it was a lot warmer then.  You see in these pictures I'm wearing short sleeves?  Hah.  Mother Nature sure likes to play tricks on me and make it cold for the first day of school unlike it should have been!

Yes, I'm incredibly nerdy.  I love looking at my textbooks.  I actually read them when the professors say to.  Did I not say that I love to learn?  This December I'll finally be graduating with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design.  This semester's class load: Typography (yum), Women In Literature (yay), and Computer Literacy (??? This is definitely a required class.  I think I know how to use the computer since I'm a graphic designer... oh well, I've been putting it off for four years so I guess I'll take it now).

shirt: Wet Seal
pants: LC Lauren Conrad
bag: Nine & Co.
shoes: Payless
ring: H&M
bracelet: gift
necklace: Heritage 1981

I'm happy I had a chance to blog today.  I'm currently taking a break from one of my freelance design jobs that is really frustrating me.  My eyes/brain are fried and I'm using this entry as my escape for a few minutes!

Anyone else back to school today?

Until next time!

The seasons they are a-changin'

Happy Labor Day!  Even though it's not the official end of summer (we still have 17 days left!) the turn of the weather is what really marks the season change to me.  While last Friday was 97° here, today's high is 66°.  I don't know about you, but that seems mighty fall-ish to me.  My front yard already has a few fallen brown leaves on it.

It's been about three months since Samantha and I started Cup of Tea.  Here's a recap of my summer outfit posts:

It's crazy to look back and see how many I got posted over the past three months.  What do I notice most about these pictures?  It's all of the lush green of Michigan!  So pretty.  And now I get to look forward to the challenge of creating fall outfits and the great colored leaves that are bound to show up in the photos!

Tomorrow is my first day back to school.  I have no idea what kind of free time I'll have in the next few months while I finish up my last three college classes and continue working at the same time.  I hope I'll be able to stay up on Cup of Tea!  Fingers crossed...

I would also like to mention that the lovely Rimi from An Air Of Surprise nominated Cup of Tea for the Sunshine Award:

Thanks so much!  Very kind of her.

And on that note, enjoy the cool breezes!
(If you're getting fall weather now too)

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

It's September 2nd and it still feels like full on summer here in Michigan.  It's currently 97° and sunny!  Great way to finish out summer!  While it feels crazy to even mention long pants, this post is all about 'em!  I'm confessing my love for jeans.  I can't get enough of them.  They're overflowing in my closet and I still manage to make room for more.  The thing is though, I wear all of my jeans.  I'm not one of those people that buys a ridiculous amount of clothing just to let it hang in the closet never to see the light of day.

So I threw together a special Labor Day weekend jeans collage.  Am I a dork?  Well, yes.

And I will share with you a photo from my closet.  This is one of my shelves filled to the max with jeans (and a few other long pants, but mostly jeans).  I've also got older pairs hidden in my closet that I haven't been able to part with yet.  I never get rid of anything until I'm absolutely sure it's ready to go because there have been too many times I regret giving something away.  So when I think I'm done with a pair, I hold on to them and, not so much to my surprise, I usually end up pulling them out and giving them new life!  So yes, I'm a jeans-aholic, but I love them and wear them all!

What item of clothing can you not get enough of?  Any exciting long-weekend plans for anyone?

Stay cool!
