What I Wore to Tea Time {may}

It feels like Tuesday but it's actually Wednesday!  Woo-hoo!  I love a short week.  On Sunday I posted my third edition of Tea Time.  May's theme was a Picnic in the Park.  Here's a closer look at what I wore to my picnic tea time.

mint pants: c/o LC Lauren Conrad | striped shirt: American Eagle
jean jacket: American Eagle | belt: Old Navy (similar)
sandals: LC Lauren Conrad |watch: Target | ring: Stella & Dot (similar)

I love a good picnic!  The picnic basket in these pictures has witnessed many-a-picnics in its lifetime and it's still going strong.  At this particular photo shoot, the basket was actually in use, it was not just a prop.  On Mother's Day my family and I drove out to visit my sister in Grand Rapids and we thought we would avoid the crowds and long waits of a restaurant in downtown GR.  Plus a picnic lunch is more fun anyway!

On a different note, many thanks to Grace of A Southern Drawl for awarding me the Sunshine Award.  So sweet of her!

Happy short week!

Tea Time {picnic in the park}

May's Tea Time theme is Picnic in the Park.  See how this month's guests would attend a picnic in the park for Memorial Day:

I thought that Memorial Day weekend would be the right time to attend a "picnic in the park."  To me, Memorial Day weekend marks the true beginning of summer, even if the actual season doesn't start for another month.  The weather is hot, the grass is green, and we're ready to picnic!

This month I'm serving Peony White tea.  I tried this one out a few weeks ago when it was still cool enough outside to drink hot tea.  But remember, any hot tea can easily be made into an iced tea treat!  If it's hot where you are, add some ice cubes to this drink and get outside!

I hope you enjoyed this month's Tea Time!  I know I had fun putting it together.  Next month I think I'm going to start the switch to serving iced teas for the rest of the summer's Tea Time posts.  What do you think?  Yes?

If you're interested in being featured, email me at, I'd love to meet you!  I still have some inquiries from last month that I revisit when putting together the next post but I'm always interested in discovering new bloggers!

Happy Tea Time!

Iced Tea and a Coral Dress

Well the heat sure is picking up here in Michigan. Just in time for a holiday weekend! Summer weather has arrived. I'm so excited for the upcoming long weekend. You will probably be able to find me on the patio with my book and a very large glass of iced tea.

dress: c/o Oasap | belt: Charlotte Russe | necklace: Forever 21 | shoes: Target

I recently used a store credit at Oasap to buy this lovely coral dress. I'm in love with this color lately (and mint, but I could fill an entire other blog entry with my current love for mint...I'll save that for another day).

It was my first time purchasing from Oasap and I was presently surprised with the selection of clothing they carry!  They have a wide mix of styles, a little something for everyone. And also adding to their greatness is that they offer free shipping worldwide! YES! If it wasn't for shipping costs, I would probably buy all of my clothing online. I really dislike spending a lot of time on shopping (don't misinterpret that. I love new clothes. I don't necessarily like shopping for them though). Anyway, I love the dress. It fits me perfectly. You mean I don't have to shorten the straps? Nope! For once the straps do not need to be shortened on me. Thank you, Oasap.

Does anyone have any exciting Memorial Day plans for this weekend? I'll be attending my monthly virtual Tea Time on Sunday! Be sure to drop back in to meet my three guests! They've got some great style to share with you!

See you at Tea Time!

Strolling with Wine

What fabulous weekend I had!  Saturday I participated in a Wine Stroll through my downtown.  This was the first year I'd done it and it was so much fun!  What a tiring day though.  Hot hot weather and lots of walking combined with drinking wine.  I think the appropriate word here would be woof (and I'm sure my coworkers would agree!).

dress: thrifted from That Girl | necklace: gift | wristlet: Express
shoes: LC Lauren Conrad

Wearing a breezy cotton dress turned out to be perfect.  I was able to look nice and be comfortable with all of the walking and heat.  I couldn't think of a better idea for shoes, as my only other more comfy option would have been tennis shoes, and I'm not one to combine those with a dress.  My greatest victory was successfully not getting sunburned!  I am a master at applying sunscreen you know, being a redhead and all.

One final comment on these pictures of what I wore to Wine Stroll: I'm SO glad I photographed beforehand.  Let's just say I wasn't quite as photogenic afterwards. ;)

P.S. Cup of Tea has reached over 200 followers on Google Friend Connect!  Thank you! I appreciate you and all of your lovely comments! :)

Eclectic Nerdiness

I have much to look forward to this weekend!!  First of all, the weather report is calling for SUN and 80's!  Also adding to the greatness of this weekend is a Saturday afternoon Wine Stroll through my local downtown.  $40 gets me lots of wine samples, food samples, and strolling fun!  Then on Sunday morning I'll be going to the Eastern Market Flower Day in Detroit.  I've heard it's pretty amazing, so I'm excited to see what all the fuss is about!  And to top off an already fun-packed weekend, on Sunday afternoon I'll be riding my bike to the Detroit Zoo with friends.  I hope to see the sloth! His name is Homer!

blazer: Forever 21 (similar) | chambray shirt: American Eagle (similar) | sweater vest: Target | skirt: Forever 21 (similar) | necklace: gift (similar) | shoes: Converse

Anyway, in clothing-news, I finally finally found a way to wear my camel colored blazer.  I've had this thing since last summer and always felt like a real estate agent when I tried to wear it.  So I ended up embracing the nerdiness and make it look intentionally-nerdy.  This is what I call my Nerdy Chic outfit.  Notice I wore my bigger framed glasses.

I would like to consider myself somewhat eclectic.  My fashion sense can be all over the map.  I don't like to stick to just one style.  I feel that this outfit brings out a lot of my personality in that it bridges different looks.  On-trend chambray shirt + nerdy sweater vest + feminine flowery skirt + all-American Converse = eclectic.

When it comes to style, are you more of a stick-to-one-style person or whatever-you're-feeling-like person?

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

I Fought the Mannequin and Won

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there!  What a busy weekend I had.  Weekend highlights include: ice cream, napping, dancing, mom-time :D

blue shirt: American Eagle | crochet top: LC Lauren Conrad | jeans: Hollister
shoes: Guess (similar) | necklace: Forever 21

Last weekend I went to Kohl's armed with a bunch of store credit that I've been saving for summery clothes.  I spotted this lovely 70's inspired crochet top from the LC Lauren Conrad collection on the mannequin and, of course, it was nowhere to be found on the racks.  Luckily, the mannequin was wearing my size.  It took about three store employees attempting get it off of her before she reluctantly handed it over (the employees couldn't get the mannequin unscrewed from the display).  I was causing a ruckus!  Good thing I actually liked what it looked like on me or else I would have felt bad!  But I like it and the mannequin got a new outfit to wear since I took her original one.  Kohl's success!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

I'm a Graduate!

Yesterday I finally walked in my commencement ceremony after having graduated last December.  I got to wear my cap, gown, and hood, walk across the stage, and take a bunch of pictures!  I absolutely love that stuff.  I now have photos to prove the completion of my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design degree.  Yay!

An abbreviated documentation of my graduation weekend:

What a great 4 and a half years it was.  I've grown and learned so much on an academic and personal level.  I've met and learned from so many special people.  Congratulations to all December 2011 and May 2012 graduates!  Your day is here!

Basic is the Way to Go

Today I come to you somewhat unprepared.  I've failed to photograph my outfits lately, as they were rather uninteresting.  However, yesterday I was was finally inspired to put a new outfit together and it was pouring rain all day long so I failed to document it with photos.  Hopefully I'll have time to recreate the look this weekend!

So today I bring you photos I took last month and never got around to posting.

dress: Target (similar) | jean jacket: American Eagle | necklace: American Eagle

I love a black cotton dress.  Sometimes just wearing a basic is the way to go.  Wouldn't you agree?

Also, Cup of Tea's Facebook page is so close to hitting 100 likes!  So if you're feeling helpful, come on over and like my page! :)

Hope everyone is having a great week!
